Sale Closed
A Mid-Summer….Special {Photoshop Actions}
Monday, July 26th, 2010For this week, my NorthWest Set is on sale for $15 instead of $24.95!
I also wanted to do a quick post with a tip on working with actions.
I grabbed this shot real quick to use……he has got that car right behind him though which is a bit bothersome so I wanted to play with it in PS to see if I could make it a little less apparent. I also wanted to encourage those of you that do run actions, to go a step beyond to make a photo yours by adding some of your own steps. Actions run differently on all pictures too so even on my own actions, I will add a step now and then to improve it for that photo.
This one is SOOC (only cropped and resized for web)

This next one I ran my NW Retro action on it.

I felt like it needed some more *umph*, so instead of just running the action, I decided to add a low fill layer (brown) at 24% opacity. I flattened the layer, added about 5% of soft light, went to curves (the blue channel) and went to the top right corner and brought it down a bit.

Below, I ran one of my black and whites from my NW Set. (Started with the SOOC)

Duplicated the layer, “Multiplied” it in “Blend Mode” at 70% approx. and erased them back in slightly.

I then wanted to try out some texture, so I opened a texture that I have and ran the same BW on it so the color would be the same. I dragged the texture over to the picture and used “free transform” to fit it perfectly over the picture. I erased them back in at a low opacity and then reduced the the texture layer to 22%. I flattened the layers and then burned a little bit around the edges.

I hope that helps a bit and maybe even given you some ideas with Photoshop. There is soooo much you can do with it. I am working with CS3 on these and my actions only run on my Photoshop CS and above.
Well, first of all . . . . . .
Friday, July 23rd, 2010WOW! IT has been a bit since I have updated my blog, so I apologize for the lack of current news being posted. There has been a lot going on in the personal life and I have not taken the time to post to all you good folk
First of all, I shot a fabulous wedding this past Saturday that ended up being a total blast! Below you can get a sneak of the gorgeous bride! (more to come in a few days)

Isn’t she gorgeous?!
On a personal note, we (as in my husband and I) are expecting another little bundle of joy and I have been so so so so so sick with nausea that it is beyond even a little chuckle. Thankfully, I got started on some meds that seem to be helping. It seems pregnancy has been a good diet lol
Secondly, there is a possibility that Jean Photography will be relocating out of the NorthWest. I know, I know, pure craziness! We have grown to love so many people here and build awesome relationships, but some opportunities for my husband and I that we may not be able to pass up. More news to come when we do find out. Once we do, we will be moving this fall.
(”Brief Blog Break” to show you this beautiful senior I got to take some pics of this last month)

Lastly, since I am “with child”. I will be taking a break from weddings for awhile. I’m not one to have easy pregnancies so weddings will be too hard on this girl! I will let you know once I begin to take them on again, so if you are looking to get married this year and need a photog. referral, make sure to contact me.
And so I leave you with a little more of a funky processed shot of the wedding

I Heart Faces {Dramatic BW}
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010{Jeans Actions}
Saturday, January 30th, 2010I leave you with one quick snap I got of my one year old. Now that he is mobile, it is so hard to get eye contact which I am sure you moms totally understand! I edited it with VintageGrooveXtreme from my new set. I then overlayed a slight layer of texture.

A Love Like No Other { Portland Wedding Photgoraphy Contest}
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009Now for our next finalist for the Love Like No Other contest……..aren’t they cute?!
Meet Rachel and Brooks

Before I met Brooks, whenever someone asked me if I have ever been in love, I would casually answer “yeah, a couple of times.” But since he has been in my life, it has made me realize that I had never truly been in love until I met him. He not only makes me the happiest girl ever, he makes me a better person. He is the love of my life, and I am his. Cheesy, I know. J
We actually were set up on a blind date (which neither one of us had ever been on before) by a mutual friend of ours. I was extremely hesitant and almost cancelled right before we were planning on meeting. I’m just not a blind date kind of girl. But I went along with it, and I could never have imagined it would be such a wonderful first (blind!) date. At the end of the night he kissed me (which is also something I NEVER do). It was a knock your socks off, take your breath away, make your heart skip a beat amazing kiss! We talked nonstop after that night, and within six months we were engaged. It all happened so fast, but when you know, you definitely know!
We are planning the wedding for the summer of 2010. We (and our very generous parents J) have set a budget and decided that whatever money we don’t use for the wedding we are going to use for a down payment on our first home. So we are trying to keep costs as low as possible. Its pretty tough though, as you know, planning a cheap wedding. We have decided to cut a lot of corners, like having the reception and ceremony on Brooks’ aunt’s property instead of renting a venue, getting cupcakes instead of a cake, buying or renting an inexpensive dress, and making most of the decorations ourselves. But the ONE thing that I said I was not going to budge on was a great photographer. The cake will be eaten, the flowers will wilt, the dress will get put away for years, but the pictures are what is going to last us a lifetime of memories. You’re photos are absolutely gorgeous. They capture all the little moments and emotions that mean so much. I want our pictures to bring a tear to my eye when I look at them, just as the ones on your website did. It would be an absolute dream come true for us if we were to win this contest! Ok, I am done with my rambling now! Thank you so much for the opportunity, what a wonderful gift to give!!
Rachel
